Why is your finger the best key?

Fingerprint access means a smarter and more advanced level of security than apps or PINs. Fingerprints are unique to everyone, making them almost impossible to forge. Unique fingerprints are much more than a combination of five to eight digits. Unlike PINs, which can be shared, copied, intercepted, guessed, or observed, fingerprints can't be transmitted or stolen. They ensure that only a registered user can unlock the door, providing maximum protection and assuring that an unmistakable, specific authorized person can access your property – not just anyone who knows the shared PIN. From a practical point of view, unlocking the door at the touch of a finger eliminates the need for a key and smartphone, reducing the number of times you have to press 6 to 9 buttons in a single gesture. This saves a few seconds each time you access, which over the years can mean several days.

What are the advantages of PINs?

There are areas where PIN access holds significant advantages. In particular, they serve as ideal 'virtual keys' for easily sharing access with people who do not visit your premises regularly. For example, for temporary access by substitute employees, visitors, or guests on short-term rentals, PINs provide a relatively secure and user-friendly method for managing keyless entry. Keep in mind that using a fingerprint requires in-person, at-the-door scanning for registration. In contrast, a PIN can be generated with an app and securely shared remotely. Since Tedee Keypad PRO combines both keyless access methods in one device, it offers a suitable solution for occasional visitors and regular users alike.

Security and data protection first

The Tedee Keypad PRO does not store accurate fingerprint scans. Instead, during the setup process, fingerprints are tokenized – a process that converts them into non-sensitive digital forms that cannot be decrypted or shared. This means that the stored data cannot be used elsewhere even if the device is compromised. Each fingerprint must be authorized personally on a specific Keypad PRO, providing additional layers of protection. This biometric approach complies with GDPR, which classifies biometric data as a category of sensitive personal data. Tedee Keypad PRO ensures compliance by storing only secure tokens, not actual fingerprints. Maximum security is ensured even when using PINs. No data is stored in the keypad, not even your unique number combination. It only connects to the smart lock, which operates via a secure cloud and secure encrypted communication that is virtually unbreakable.

Two ways to power and smooth installation

For convenience, the keypad can be powered wirelessly with four AAA batteries, lasting a minimum of 12 months. Battery replacements are straightforward, with notifications alerting you when replacements are due. For enhanced reliability, the Tedee Keypad PRO also supports wired power. Using the included adapter, the keypad can be connected to the DC input for continuous power. To ensure uninterrupted operation during a power outage, you can install batteries as a backup power source. Designed for outdoor installation, the Tedee Keypad PRO is waterproof and dustproof to an IP65 rating, so it won't be damaged by inclement weather. Attach it to smooth or porous surfaces in minutes with the adhesive backing or the included screws and dowels.

Tedee Keypad PRO combines cutting-edge design and quality. It is equipped with a small LED and buzzer to signal various events, for example, a green light and a short sequence of beeps when the PIN is entered correctly. It is available in two matt, stylish color options – black and white. Harmoniously matching the Tedee smart lock, its smooth geometric shape, minimal buttons, and discreet embellishments make it a subtle but impressive upgrade to your door. It blends seamlessly into your entrance while bringing a revolutionary approach to unlocking doors without keys or other devices.

Ready for future NFC support

Currently Tedee Keypad PRO does not support NFC unlocking. However, this feature is under development and the keypad has an integrated NFC reader chip so that in the future, via a free firmware update, this functionality can also be used. The activation of the NFC functionality will also enable the development of a digital key solution for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. Once this feature is activated, authorized users will be able to unlock the smart lock by simply bringing their smartphone or smartwatch close to the Tedee Keypad PRO. Tedee is currently working intensively on the development of these solutions and is preparing for their launch.

Tedee Keypad PRO is ideal for property owners for short-term rentals. Your guest doesn't need to install any app or create any accounts, and you can grant access with a time-limited PIN. With the new keypad feature of locking the door from the outside by pressing a button or entering a number combination, your guests won't even need the app when they leave (unless automatic locking is activated). Not only your guests can enjoy the benefits of controlled keyless entry, but also members of the cleaning service if you do not maintain the property yourself.

Tedee portal features designed specifically for hosts

For an even better hosting experience, we recommend pairing your lock and keypad with Tedee Bridge. It allows you to control access via the Tedee web portal. There, you can take advantage of one functionality directly tailored to the needs of professional hosts, namely the integration of the locks and keypad with channel management platforms such as Smoobu or Guesty. These channels sync all the bookings published on short-term rental platforms – typically Booking, AirBnB, Agoda, Expedia, etc. - and turn the Tedee portal into your virtual reception. It will make it easier for you to control all your accommodation and streamline access management, for example by automatically generating and sharing PIN codes with guests.
