The relay module is an electronic controller for locking devices. It unlocks a mechanism with an electric signal instead of a key. It is a popular tool with multiple applications that is used daily with your intercom, garage door, or office entrance. Any relay-controlled equipment requires a power source and an ‘unlock’ button, remote, PIN pad, or fob reader. These devices’ confirm’ the users accessing the device and then permit them to unlock their hardware. But what if you could unlock all of your devices using your smartphone? That's exactly what the smart relay module in combination with the tedee app offers you!

How does it work?

The tedee smart relay module is an optional accessory for your existing relay controller. Wire it into the assembly and connect the controller to the internet using your local Wi-Fi network or mobile data router. This will ensure that you create a universal wireless connection between the relay device and your smartphone. The module can be accessed via your local WiFi network and the internet and integrated with an online cloud platform. The installation process for the Tedee smart relay module involves an electronic connection, connection to the online cloud service, and subsequent systems integration with the Tedee app. The Tedee smart relay module should only be installed by qualified installers or electricians.

Keep in mind that the smart relay module can only work when your smartphone is connected to the internet. Please note that there is no short-range Bluetooth or direct Wi-Fi connection for local control of the device. If you're installing a relay controller for a device in places without an internet connection, such as underground garages or enclosed hallways, you'll need to find an internet connection to unlock it.

Its installation is a minor and reversible addition to your building's hardware, however, in the case of shared properties, it is advisable to contact the property management first to confirm the location of the controller and permission for installation in advance. Installation of the relay module involves hardware modification of the lock relay control unit and connection of multiple wires. We therefore recommend that you delegate its installation to professionals.

As the owner of a tedee smart relay module, you will be able to share virtual keys to the module to enable door unlocking via the tedee app. Your guests will receive an email and after logging into the app, they will unlock the door with a single click on their smartphone. The latest feature introduced by tedee smart devices is access link sharing. This allows your visitor to control all devices at your rental – whether it's an individual apartment's smart lock or a common entrance relay – without having to install the app. Once they receive the link, they simply click on it and unlock the door by swiping the slider.

You can manage your guests' access not only in the mobile app but also in the tedee portal in the web browser. As with all tedee devices for access control, you can set the dates and times when visitors to your rental can use the virtual keys. For example, their app would only unlock the door during the booked stay, becoming inactive before the hour of arrival and automatically expiring after the hour of departure. You can also generate the aforementioned access link in the portal, configure it with the same detailed settings, and then share this link in your preferred way: via email or messaging app. You will especially appreciate the clear desktop view if you manage multiple rental properties.

The management of access on a desktop computer can be used by anyone, even ordinary users for private purposes. In order to control your smart locks on the web portal, you need to pair them with a Tedee bridge connected to the internet and have an account created in the mobile app. The web portal can be found at the address portal.tedee.com.
